Robin Jones of the blog My Closet Journey shows us her Edmonton style.
1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Robin and I am the Founder of My Closet Journey – a fashion, travel and lifestyle blog that inspires people to live stylishly. My focus is to align myself with local, conscientious brands that share in my values and morals. I have always been very creative and into the arts; as a result I decided to get tattoos and piercings as a form of art and a way to express myself. Over time while blogging I’ve had companies ask me to take them out, cover them up or hide them. I used to try and hide them but now I only work with brands that accept my style for who I am!
2. What’s your first fashion memory?
My first fashion memory was going shopping with my dad. My dad would give me a budget and say go buy what you want, just make sure they are quality pieces that will last and you choose things thoughtfully.
3. Define your style in three words.
Edgy, chic and feminine.
4. What are your favourite Manulife Place retailers?
Holt Renfrew, Night Owl Lingerie and Blu’s.
5. Where do you find inspiration for your style?
Social Media – Following bloggers like The Pretty Secrets and Damsel in Dior
Fashion Week– For years I’ve followed NYFW, LFW and, of course, Paris Fashion Week. The trends and styles that are shown always inspire looks that I want to showcase with My Closet Journey
Movies – Devil Wears Prada: This movie showcases what the fashion world can sometimes be like, grueling and hard work but also one of the most rewarding and fulfilling industries to work in
TV Shows – Gossip Girl: Inspired me to fall in love with so many different styles and “ideas” of what fashion is. Blair Waldorf’s headbands always stuck with me — she made her uniform her own by simply adding a headband.
6. What are your favourite spring trends?
Fashion – Florals, bohemian maxi dresses with floral/vibrant prints, heels, embroidery
Nails – Matte nail polish, glitzy designs
Hair – Vibrant colours, bangs, dark roots, braids
Makeup – Bold lip colours, bright palettes, earthy tones
7. Who are your fashion icons?
Fashion Brand – Chanel & Gucci
Fashion Influencer – Song of Style
8. What’s your go-to everyday outfit?
Converse (pink). Jeans. Graphic t-shirt. Leather jacket.
9. What is your favourite thing about Edmonton and its style?
Edmonton Style – Bold, head turner pieces that catch people’s attention
Edmonton – The people and the festivals are what make Edmonton interesting!
