This Spring, Manulife Place will be awarding two local brands with free retail space for three months!

About The Competition

By tapping into the best of the best from Edmonton's entrepreneurial scene, our goal is to curate an environment that is anything but cookie cutter by celebrating Edmonton's local talent.

Located in the heart of Edmonton's business district, Manulife Place is downtown Edmonton's exclusive shopping destination. Directly connected to the city's vast pedway system and with access to many of the commercial centres downtown, these two lucky winners will gain immediate exposure and profile for their brands.

Stores

The Prize

Two lucky winners will each receive their very own retail space for three months. Each unit will be delivered in White Box condition. Manulife Place will help market and promote the retail spaces, drawing visitors to your space and ours.

Available Units:

  • Unit 230 at 614 Sq. Ft
  • Unit 242 at 843 Sq. Ft

Both units include:

  • Rent: FREE.
  • Duration: 3 Months
  • Delivery of space: White Box condition

Winner will be responsible to provide the following:

  • A professionally merchandised store ready to conduct business on a daily basis within the hours of operation at Manulife Place. This includes storefront window design, displays, signage and interior merchandising.
  • Hiring and training of staff.
  • Social media posts about the pop-up stores should include @ManulifePlace and #ExclusivelyEdmonton

Being experts in the retail industry, our panel of judges bring an incredible depth of experience and expertise to the table having worked with retailers and restaurateurs across Canada, from Vancouver to Halifax. Meet them below:

Marcelle, the President and CEO of Beauleigh is an expert in all things retail having over 20 years of experience. With a keen eye for merchandising mix, Marcelle is able to develop and implement retail strategies for a range of projects from large-scale renovations and expansions to working with first-to-market retailers and independent operators. She is uniquely qualified to monitor international retailing trends, introducing cosmopolitan flair and successful practices to the Canadian marketplace.

Jean Francois Nault

With a career in the retail industry for more than 20 years, Jean Francois (JF) has developed a strong understanding of the many facets of retail from the larger perspective of real estate to the specifics of store layout design, merchandise and operations. During his tenure with a major U.S. retailer, he travelled extensively throughout Canada, the U.S., Central America and the Caribbean, launching the chain in new markets.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a non-cookie cutter retail concept to animate the retail landscape at Manulife Place. What does that mean? It means unique, authentic, cool, trendy or never been seen/done before concepts that, of course, feature beautiful “I must have that” products.

Minimal cost should be associated with the store design. Below are some examples of existing retail concepts that fit design criteria of what we’re looking for.

Application

To enter, please upload a presentation that thoroughly outlines and communicates your vision. You’ll also need to complete this applicant waiver and upload it with your submission. Applications will be accepted here until May 11th, 2018.

Your presentation should be submitted in PDF format and include the following information:

  1. Who You Are/What is your story? – What is your concept and what makes it unique?
  2. What is your Vision/Mission Statement?
  3. Images – Please provide as many images as possible of your existing store and/or inspirational images of what your store would look like. This should include merchandising and signage.
  4. Marketing Material – Please provide examples of existing marketing material i.e. – website, social media, digital/print media etc.
  5. Merchandise – What is your product or service? Please provide images and short descriptions/explanations of products and/or services.
  6. Cost – Breakdown of cost for merchandise/service.
  7. Proforma/Business Plan – What is your estimated income/profit? Please provide a month’s projection.
  8. What Winning a Store Front Means to You – Tell us why you SHOULD win!
  9. Contact Information – Name, number, e-mail and address of all parties involved with the submission.
